Dressmaking Saturday
This monthly Saturday class is designed for you to work on your own project at your own pace, whether you are a beginner, intermediate or a more advanced stitcher, whether you want to make something from scratch or upcycle (or alter) an existing garment.
With expert guidance you can make a garment that will be a perfect fit and have a professional finish. This class is suitable for all abilities – if you are a beginner our tutor will take you through the whole process from how to read the pattern, to how to cut your fabric (accurately!), as well learning the skills such as pattern alteration and fitting, darts, hems and inserting zips.
Those that already have sewing experience can learn new skills and techniques to take their sewing to another level. During the sessions the tutor will demonstrate techniques either as a group or individually and share with you lots of hints and tips!
You can expect to complete a straightforward garment, although this will depend on the speed that you work and the difficulty of the pattern chosen, in approx. 2 to 3 sessions.

Fabric
If you already have a project in mind and have the fabric (and if required, a pattern) then bring these with you; the tutor can give you guidance with these if required. Dressmaking and patchwork fabrics, along with all your other sewing requirements, are available to purchase in the shop with a 10% discount.
Pattern
We stock Simplicity, Tilly and the Buttons, Poppy and Jazz, The Avid Seamstress, Sewgirl and Quality Textiles patterns. You can view our pattern selection online here or if you prefer to browse in store then our staff are happy to give advice. You may want to do this a few days prior to the course or come in a little earlier on the day to ensure you have enough time to choose.
