Garment Making Wednesday PM: Autumn/Winter 2023 Dates
Dressmaking and Garment Making
Can’t find clothes to fit? Can’t find styles to flatter? With expert guidance you can make a garment that will be a perfect fit and have a professional finish. This course is suitable for all abilities – if you are a beginner our tutor will take you through the whole process from how to read the pattern, to how to cut your fabric (accurately!), as well learning the skills such as darts, hems and inserting zips. Those with sewing experience can learn new skills and techniques to take your sewing to another level.
You will be provided with a Husqvarna Viking sewing machine to use during the class. Please note we cannot guarantee specific models.
Basic sewing equipment, to include:
- Cutting out Scissors
- Small paper scissors
- Tape measure
- Fabric marker
If you already have a project in mind and have the fabric (and if required, a pattern) then bring these with you. If you don’t have a project in mind the teacher will happy to help and advise you. Dressmaking and patchwork fabrics, along with all your other sewing requirements, are available to purchase in the shop with a 10% discount.
If you are attending a dressmaking class you will require a pattern. We stock Simplicity, Tilly and the Buttons, Poppy and Jazz, The Avid Seamstress, Quality Textiles and Sewgirl patterns. You can view our pattern selection online here or if you prefer to browse in store then our staff are happy to give advice. You may want to do this a few days prior to the course or come in a little earlier on the day to ensure you have enough time to choose.
