Rainbow Sampler Quilt
The Rainbow Sampler Quilt is suitable for beginners and for those who want to have fun with colour and pattern. Here’s a new and exciting way to make a sampler quilt and learn to make a lot of simple blocks easily!
Each 4” block uses just a background fabric and one coloured fabric. We start in the centre and work outwards, so that you can see the effect of colour and pattern as you go. The quilt top is 60”, but if you want it larger you can add borders, either plain or pieced.
The rainbow effect is created with plain or patterned fabrics in a colour range. There are seven colour rounds plus a centre square, which can be fussy cut. This also works well as a monochromatic quilt, using shades of one or two colours, or with a riot of pattern against a neutral background.
Rainbow Sampler Quilt Requirements:
I suggest a minimum of 3x half metres of background fabrics.
Look through your scraps and fabric and sort into colourways, either plains or patterns or a mix. Obviously the outer rounds will involve more blocks, therefore more variations on a colour, or more yardage. The centre blocks need very little fabric. You are working on rounds for this quilt, so one colour or shade set at a time. You just need an idea of where you are going when we start!
