The first sections you will tackle are “coffee pot”, “love” and “home”. Gilli can provide the alternatives “dog breeds” and “shoes” if preferred, with enough notice.
You will need:
A selection of fat quarters or half metres of a range of colours and mixed prints and textured plains.
Gilli started with a basic group of colours drawn from traditional Amish quilts: aubergine, mid grey, fuchsia, apple green, yellow ochre, teal blue and beige, plus a modern floral fabric which had all of these colours in it. She then collected variations on these colours – a lighter grey, a deeper maroon, lime green, magenta, orange, turquoise, etc.
Any combinations will work, but keep any strong patterns to a minimum in this quilt, to show off the shapes and applique stitching
Threads – rayons, plain cottons, etc. in a variety of colours to match and contrast. Standard weights, 40 – 50wt.
Thread for piecing, to blend with the colour scheme: mid-grey or taupe work well. 50 – 60wt.
Eventually you will need wadding, border and backing materials. The measurement for these will be provided in class.
And don't forget your basic sewing equipment, to include:
Cutting mat (we do have a small amount number of mats to for you to use but bringing your own may save you waiting)
Husqvarna owners may also wish to bring the following:
Green bobbin (these can be purchased individually in the shop)
1/4” piecing foot
Open toe appliqué foot
Free motion spring foot
All of the above items can be purchased from Coles Sewing Centre with a 10% discount in the shop for class attendees!
